Jatik Diaz

Physical Description

Jatnk Díaz is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-handed pitcher who bats and throws right-handed. Born on August 19, 2004, in Bonao, Dominican Republic, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 8th round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Hazleton Area High School in Pennsylvania. Díaz possesses a tall, projectable frame with room for physical development but for his age, he posses a good size already.

Fastball – 50

Díaz’s fastball sits in the mid-90s, occasionally touching higher velocities. The pitch exhibits natural sink, making it effective in inducing ground balls and keeping hitters off balance.

Slider – 50

His slider shows potential as a solid secondary offering, featuring sharp break that can generate swings and misses when located effectively.

Changeup – 40

Díaz has shown some feel for a changeup, though it remains a developing pitch. Improvement in this area could enhance his effectiveness against left-handed hitter.

Control – 40

Control has been an area of concern for Díaz, as evidenced by his walk rates in the Florida Complex League. Refinement of his mechanics and increased experience are necessary to improve his command and overall effectiveness.

Overall Outlook

Díaz is a raw but intriguing prospect with a combination of size and arm strength that offers significant upside. His limited pitching experience suggests a high ceiling, but also indicates that patience will be required as he develops. A potential “diamond in the rough” as hopefully, there will be more video or the ability to have live looks at him this year.
