TMLR Live Looks: Hao-Yu Lee and Jahmai Jones

Position: OF (can play 2B in a pinch)

Bats/Throws: R/R
Age: 27
Future Role Projection: C2

Summary

Jahmai Jones is an athletic, defense-first outfielder who offers above-average speed and instincts on the basepaths. While his glove is solid, and he can handle second base in an emergency, his limited offensive skill set—especially in terms of contact and power—caps his major league value.

Live Look: Opening Day Recap

Jones got five plate appearances on Opening Day:

  • 1st AB – Popped out to the catcher (fastball)
  • 2nd AB – Struck out swinging on three pitches
  • 3rd AB – Flied out to left (slider)
  • 4th AB – Hit by pitch
  • 5th AB – Struck out swinging (breaking ball)

He continues to offer depth to the Tigers’ system defensively and as a base-stealing threat, but his lack of consistent hard contact will limit his staying power at the big-league level.

Live Look: Opening Day Recap

Lee’s four plate appearances showed a lot to like:

  • 1st AB – Flew out to LF (slider)
  • 2nd AB – Worked a six-pitch walk after a couple swings at spin
  • 3rd AB – Flied out foul to RF after a 3–1 count
  • 4th AB – Drove a sweeper deep to LF, just shy of a HR

While he showed a touch of over-aggression on breaking balls, Lee stayed in the zone overall. His feel for hitting and track record point toward successful adaptation to AAA.

Lee remains a player to watch closely in 2025 as he inches closer to Detroit. His combination of contact, IQ, and pop makes him one of the safest bets in the system.
