TMLR Recap

On tonight’s TMLR Recap: Three affiliates go into extra innings and only one came up victorious and Erie continues to feast on Harrisburg’s pitching.

Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A)

Round Rock 6-Toledo 4 10 innings (Toledo 2-6)

Walk-Off Blues in Texas

It looked like Toledo had this one in hand — until it didn’t.

Despite an early blast from Bligh Madris and solid work from Dietrich Enns, the bullpen faltered late and Tucker Barnhart sent everyone home with a two-run walk-off homer in the 10th as Round Rock stunned the Mud Hens, 6–4.

Top 2nd
With two outs and a 3–1 count, Bligh Madris turned on one and launched it 420 feet at 107.7 mph into the Texas night. The two-run shot put Toledo up early, 2–0, after Brewer Hicklen had reached base.

Bottom 6th
Andrew Chafin entered with a 3–0 lead but couldn’t hold it. Three straight singles and a wild pitch later, Round Rock tied the game 3–3.

Top 10th
A ground out by Tomás Nido was enough to bring home the automatic runner, and the Mud Hens reclaimed the lead, 4–3.

Bottom 10th
Round Rock answered quickly. A ground out moved the runner to third, followed by a Trevor Hauver double to tie the game. Moments later, Fomer Tiger catcher Tucker Barnhart ended it with a two-run blast to right-center (395 ft, 102.9 mph EV), handing Toledo a painful 6–4 loss.

Game Notes:

Max Anderson hit his first home run of his Double-A career.  That was just the beginning. Eduardo Valencia drew a bases-loaded walk,(one of seven issued, 15 total in two games issued by Harrisburg) and an errant throw on a Brady Allen grounder plated two more as Erie jumped out to a 4–0 lead. Anderson stayed hot with an RBI double, and Justice Bigbie followed with a missile to right-center to cap a five-run outburst through two. Erie led 8–0

Ben Malgeri ripped a triple to right to score Anderson, and Eduardo Valencia added another RBI with a single, making it 10–0 before Harrisburg got on the board in the 9th. Jake Miller will take the mound on Sunday as Erie looks to sweep the series.

West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)

Final: West Michigan 4-Dayton 3 (11 innings)

Top Performer(s):

  • John Peck: 2-for-5, HR (1), BB, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB – Huge night. Powered the offense and walked it off.

  • Max Clark: 1-for-3, 3 BB, R – Showed patience and poise in the leadoff spot.

On the Mound

  • Max Alba: 3 IP, 5 K

  • Kenny Serwa: 4 IP, 4 K. The debut of the knuckle ball was in full effect.

  • Marco Jimenez: 1.2 IP, 2 K

Game Notes:

The scoring started with John Peck, who launched a line-drive homer to right to give West Michigan an early lead. He wasn’t done. A few innings later, after reaching base again, Peck came around to score on a clutch two-out single from Brett Callahan that made it 2–0.

Dayton wouldn’t go quietly. A deflected infield single, a passed ball, and a couple of walks helped the Dragons claw back to tie the game. A double play got the Whitecaps out of the jam, but the momentum had shifted.

Things stayed tense into extra innings. Dayton grabbed the lead in the 11th on a groundout, threatening to spoil the night for West Michigan.

But in the bottom half, the Whitecaps answered. Max Clark drew his third walk of the night to put pressure on the defense, and Seth Stephenson followed with a sharp single to left. After Josue Briceño grounded into a force at the plate, the bases remained loaded for Peck — and he delivered. A ground ball through the left side sent Clark and Stephenson racing home and the Whitecaps pouring out of the dugout for a hard-earned 4–3 walk-off win.

Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)

Final: Tampa 2-Lakeland 1

Top Performer(s):

  • Nomar Fana: 1-for-4, HR (1), BB, 2 R, 4 RBI – Crushed a game-tying grand slam in the 7th.

  • Samuel Gil: 2-for-4, 2 2B, BB, K – Two loud doubles and a steady presence at the plate.

  • Carson Rucker: 2-for-5, 2 K, R, RBI – Kept the rally alive with an RBI single.

  • Patrick Lee: 1-for-4, 2B, BB, 3 K, RBI, SB (2) – Delivered early and added two stolen bases.

  • Akil Baddoo: 2-for-3, K – Reached base twice in a rehab appearance.

On the mound:

Josh Randall: 3 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Game Notes:

Tampa came out swinging, plating three in the first inning off Josh Randall thanks to a double and a sharp two-run single. Lakeland responded in the second with a double from Patrick Lee to bring home their first run, but Tampa continued to pile on. By the end of the fourth, the Flying Tigers found themselves down 6–1.

Things stayed quiet until the seventh — then the bats woke up.

Carson Rucker knocked in a run with a single to keep the line moving, and that set the stage for Nomar Fana, who turned on a pitch and launched a grand slam to right-center to tie the game 6–6. It was Fana’s first homer of the year, and a loud one at that.

Lakeland had momentum, but neither side could break through again until extras. In the bottom of the 10th, with a runner on second, Tampa’s Tyler Wilson lined a sharp single to left to bring home the winning run and end the comeback effort one run short. Ethan Sloan made his professional debut, pitching in extra innings.
