Tigers Minor League Recap – 4/23

Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A)

Final: Omaha 4 – Toledo 8

Top Performer(s):

Jahmai Jones, LF — 2-for-3, 3B, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, SB
Brewer Hicklen, CF — 2-for-4, 2B, R, BB
Andrew Navigato, 3B — 1-for-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI

Matt Seelinger — 2.1 IP, 1 hits, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BBs, 1 K. Not a ton of Ks in 2.1 IP for Matt, but he held Omaha to no runs after Toledo took the lead and didn’t look back

Game notes:

Toledo scored 2 runs in 6th to give them the lead and didn’t look back. Dietrich Enns got the start and gave up 4 ER in 4.2 IP, but the bullpen locked Omaha down to get the win.

Tomorrow’s projected starters: Wilkel Hernandez (0-0, 4.32 ERA) vs TBD

Erie SeaWolves (Double-A)

Final: Harrisburg 3 – Erie 10

Top Performer(s):

Carlos Mendoza, 3B — 2-for-2, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Jim Jarvis, 2B — 2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI
Brady Allen, CF — 1-for-3, 2B, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 K

Carlos Pena — 3.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BBs, 4 Ks. Carlos Pena got the 3 inning save tonight. He’s faced the minimum number of hitters, striking out 4, in just 32 pifches. He relied on his fastball that sat low in the zone and handled the long relief.

Game Notes:

Erie continues their winning ways. Todays win included a 5 run 8th inning to really blow the game open. Carlos Mendoza had a fantastic showing, including sending a 100 MPH fastball the opposite way to drive in the first of 3 runs in the 3rd inning.

Tomorrow’s projected starters: Jaden Hamm (0-0, 4.26 ERA) vs TBD

West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)

Final: Dayton 5 – West Michigan 2

Top Performer(s):

Bennett Lee, C — 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBIs, 1 R
Luke Gold, LF — 3-for-4, 2B, 1 R

Jordan Marks — 1.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K. Jordan Marks come in the 8th, threw 12 pitches, got 3 Ks. Hard to get much more efficient than that. Dropped his ERA to 3.38 on the year

Game Notes:

Bennett Lee got the Whitecaps the early lead with a 2-run shot in the 2nd inning. Unfortunately that’s all the offense could muster today and it wasn’t enough as Dayton got the Kenny Serwa in the bottom of the second for 3 runs. The normally high scoring offense was tamed today and will look to bounce back tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s projected starters: Andrew Sears (0-0, 7.56 ERA) vs Luke Hayden (1-0, 0.96 ERA)

Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)

Final: Bradenton 2 – Lakeland 5

Top Performer(s):

Franyerber Montilla, SS — 1-for-2, RBI, BB
Bryce Rainer, DH — 1-for-3, RBI
Garrett Pennington, 1B —1-for-3, HR, R, RBI

Paul Wilson — 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. Paul Wilson sat more in the zone today with his 4-seam and sinker, averaging 95 for both. Threw a lot of sliders today, getting some good break, but didn’t seem to control it particularly well.

Game Notes:

A really good game for the Flying Tigers tonight. Paul Wilson sat in the zone more, showing more control. Bryce Rainer added 3 more 100+ MPH EVs to his resume. Garrett Pennington added one of his own, a 108 MPH HR. Despite giving up 2 ER tonight, Lucas Elissalt is intriguing. High spin curveball tonight with great fastball command.

Tomorrow’s projected starters: TBD vs Matt Ager (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
