Tigers Minor League Recap – 5/28

Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A)

Final: Louisville 2 – Toledo 4

Bligh Madris, 1B — 2-for-4, 2 2B, R
Brian Serven, C — 1-for-3, HR, R, 2 RBI

Bullpen — 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. Today was not Wilkel’s sharpest outing of the season. His bullpen helped pick him up though as they got a majority of the innings for the Mud Hens. They allowed just 2 base runners in 5 innings and had a 29.4% K% in todays game. 

Game notes:

Today looked like it was going to be a constant back and forth game. Louisville started the scoring the top of the 1st, Toledo tying in the bottom of the 2nd, Louisville getting the lead once more in the top of the 3rd. Then the bottom of the 4th saw the Mud Hens score 3 runs on a Bligh Madris double and Brian Serven home run. That was all that was needed as the scoring stopped for the rest of the game. The bullpens were fantastic. Each bullpen gave the teams 5 IP where they allowed zero runs to pass by.

West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)

Izaac Pacheco, 3B — 2-for-5, 3 RBI

Bullpen — 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K. Like with Toledo, West Michigan’s bullpen came in big. They allowed just two base runners and let the offense get back into the game and win.

Game Notes:

Hayden Minton made his A+ debut tonight. He started out quite well, striking out 3 and giving up 2 hits and getting 1 ER in his first 3 innings. It wasn’t as smooth of a 4th though. He allowed 4 base runners (3 singles, 1 walk) and 3 ER thanks to 3 stolen bases from Dayton. Kevin McGonigle continues to hit. He’s collected his 3rd multi-hit game out of his last 4. Izaac Pacheco also stays hot, driving in the go-ahead run in the 10th with this single up the middle.

Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)

Game 1 Final: Tampa 2 – Lakeland 0, suspended in the top of the 5th

Game Notes:

The game was suspended in the top of the 5th due to lightning. Garrett Pennington had the only 2 hits so far for Lakeland, both singles and both well over 100 MPH. Tyler Mattison makes his 2025 debut, and first appearance in 20 months, by starting the game and pitching just the first inning. He gave up 1 hit and walked 1. Threw 14 pitches, 11 of which were fastballs. He averaged 91.9 MPH. R.J. Sales came in and got the next 3.2 IP before getting suspended. His slider was doing well getting 4 whiffs on 5 swings on 8 pitches thrown. His  30.9% CSW% suggests he was doing quite well despite giving up the 2 runs.
