Game notes:

Troy Melton made his debut in Columbus today showing signs of major league potential. Opponents whiffed nine times against him and struck out seven times, although the downfall for Melton were the two solo home runs given up. The offense missed Hao-Yu Lee, as they struggled to put runs together, stringing together seven singles and two walks. Toledo is 33-27 on the year.

Game notes:

It was Kenny Serwa debut day in Erie, Pennsylvania. The 27 year old knuckleballer signed in the offseason made his first start for the SeaWolves and it was serviceable, throwing 80 pitches over six innings. Eduardo Valencia, who hit two home runs yesterday, hit his tenth tonight. Erie excelled at plate discipline and situational hitting. The SeaWolves earned eleven free passes and hit 6-17 with RISP. The SeaWolves improve to 37-17.

West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)

Game notes:

The Whitecaps bounce back from last night’s loss with a walk off winner in the 11th inning courtesy of John Peck. Seth Stephenson knocked four hits to raises his .OPS to .808. Patrick Lee was hit by a pitch in the 5th inning and was replaced by Luke Gold who hit a solo home run in the 7th to tie the game at two a piece. Max Alba pitched five innings of two run ball to hold the Captains steadily. Colin Fields laid down the law in extra innings, giving one unearned ghost run in the 10th inning and holding the Captains from further damage. The Whitecaps are 38-16 on the season.

Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)

Final: Daytona 11 – Lakeland 3

Game notes:

Lakeland did not have a fun night at Publix Field, yielding 14 hits to the Tortugas. Starting pitcher, RJ Sales did not make it out of the first inning. All pitchers in the box score gave up an earned run except for first baseman Garrett Pennington. Lakeland is 31-22 and remains at first place in the FSL West.

FCL Tigers (Florida Complex League)

Game notes:

The Complex League Tigers scored three runs in both the first and second inning which ended up being all they needed. Enrique Jimenez hit his fourth home run of the season in the first. Jatnk Diaz has his first poor start of the season, giving up his first earned run since May 8th. He gave up ten hits in five innings but got a grasp for the strike zone, only walking one batter. Eliseo Mota and Dawson Price both held down the fort, teaming up together to finish the game for the Tigers. They are 14-10 on the season.

DSL Tigers1 (Dominican Summer League)

Final: Tigers 6  – Giants 11

Game notes:

The Tigers catch their first loss of the season in the DSL. Cristian Perez hit his third home run of the season in his third game. Early Dominican Summer League baseball will lack fundamentals, let alone the entire season. The Tigers only committed one error but walked ten batters while only walking twice themselves.

Carlos Benavides two-run splash in the bottom of the first ended up being the only runs that the Tigers put on the scoreboard. Both teams walked eight times, although the Angels capitalized more.
