Tigers Minor League Recap – 6/18
Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A)
Final: St. Paul 4 – Toledo 6
Top Performer(s):
Akil Baddoo, LF — 3-for-4, 2B, 3B, R, 4 RBI
Justyn-Henry Malloy, RF — 1-for-2, RBI, BB, SB
Jace Jung, 3B — 0-for-2, 2 BB, R
Dietrich Enns — 4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 10 K. I can’t pass up the guy who struck out 10 in less than 5 innings pitched. It’s the most Ks for a pitcher in a single Toledo game this year and only the 6th time since 2021 that a Mud Hen has had 10+ Ks in a single game
Game notes:
It was once again familiar names and faces that were getting the job done for the Mud Hens tonight. Akil Baddoo scored/drove in 5 of the 6 runs scored by the offense and was a HR short of the cycle. It was his 2B in the 8th with the bases loaded that gave the Mud Hens the lead.
Dietrich Enns didn’t get very deep into the game, but he was mowing down the St. Paul hitters tonight. With the 10 Ks, he had 15 whiffs (40.5% Whiff%) to go with 21 called strikes (39.6% CSW%). Brendan White came in right after and proceeded to get 6 whiffs on his 12 sliders/sweepers that he threw tonight. He saw an uptick in spin for those two pitches and even a slight uptick in his average fastball velocity. Bailey Horn came in the 7th while Matt Manning got the final two innings giving up 1 run, but getting the save.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Nick Margevicius (3-2, 2.20 ERA) vs Trent Baker (0-0, 40.50 ERA)
Erie SeaWolves (Double-A)
Final: Chesapeake 0 – Erie 14 F/7
Top Performer(s):
Thayron Liranzo, C — 2-for-2, HR, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Ben Malgeri, CF — 2-for-3, 2B, 3B, 2 R, 3 RBI
Chris Meyers, LF — 3-for-3, 2 HR, 3 R, 4 RBI, BB
Jaden Hamm — 5.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K. Jaden Hamm had his best Erie start to date and possible his best start of his career. It’s only the second time in his professional career that he’s pitched more than 5.0 innings in a start with the other one coming on 6/27/24 and he’s given up fewer hits, fewer walks, and fewer runs in this one.
Game Notes:
The offense had it going today. They scored in each of the first 5 innings including 4 in the 2nd and the 5th. As a team they hit 3 HRs (2 from Chris Meyers, one from Thayron Liranzo) and 7 XBH. For the 3rd time this year, Ben Malgeri gets a 2B and 3B in the same game. Lorenzo and Malgeri both drove in 3 runs a piece, Meyers drove in 4. Jim Jarvis was the only Erie hitter to not get a hit or walk today.

Jaden Hamm’s day ended after a 2-out walk. Erie brought in Richard Guasch who finished the game before it was called in the 7th due to weather.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Game 1: Carlos Peña (3-4, 2.47 ERA) vs Nestor German (3-2, 3.46 ERA)
West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)
Final: Wisconsin – West Michigan Postponed due to weather

Game Notes:
Weather canceled the game.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Rayner Castillo (1-3, 5.44 ERA) vs Anthony Flores (2-2, 3.91 ERA)
Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)
Final: Fort Myers 2 – Lakeland 5
Top Performer(s):
Franyerber Montilla, 2B — 3-for-4, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, 4 SB
Woody Hadeen, SS — 2-for-5, R, 2 SB
Ricardo Hurtado, C — 1-for-4, RBI
Moises Rodriguez — 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K. Moises was able to get through his 2 IP and get his 3 Ks on just 22 pitches. He’s still keeping the fastball in the upper-90s, touching 99 in this game.
Game Notes:
This was a continuation of yesterday’s game. Offensively it was the Franyerber Montilla show. He had 3 of the 8 hits and had a part in 4 of the 5 runs scored (2 scored himself, 2 he drove in). He stole a career high 4 bases today, 2B 2 times and 3B 2 times, one of which caused a throwing error by the catcher to score a run. He had 2 of the 3 XBH for the Flying Tigers.
Pitching wise we got to see Tanner Kohlhepp make his 2025 debut. Only needed 7 pitches to get through his inning. His 4 sinkers were between 95.3 and 95.5 MPH, his slider had a max RPM of 2774. None of the 6 pitchers used threw more than 2 innings, so it was almost like an unplanned bullpen game.

Final: Fort Myers 1 – Lakeland 6
Top Performer(s):
Franyerber Montilla, SS — 2-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI, BB
Cristian Santana, 1B — 1-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI
Ricardo Hurtado, DH — 2-for-3, 2B, RBI
Luke Stofel — 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. Another good game for Luke. He’s not a huge strike out guy, but he’s lowered his ERA to 1.02 on the season. It’s the third time this year that Luke has gone 5 innings and not given up an ER this year.
Game Notes:
Game 2 was a continuation of the Franyerber Montilla show. This time he hit a 2-run HR, his 3rd of the season, gave the Flying Tigers the 2-1 lead and they wouldn’t look back. Cristian Santana hit his 10th HR of the season, his 4th straight game with a HR and 5 in those 4 games. Ricardo Hurtado would drive in the 4th run of the inning on a single. They would score 2 more in the 7th via a Cristian Santana groundout and Garrett Pennington single.
More importantly the win secured Lakeland’s spot in the 2025 playoffs! Huge accomplishment and congrats to the Flying Tigers!
Cristian Santana follows Montilla’s homer with a blast of his own to put the Flying Tigers up 3-1. It’s Santana’s 10th home run of the year, and his 5th in the last 5 games. pic.twitter.com/HRFRMvbEGT

That would be all that they needed as the Lakeland pitchers would allow just 4 base runners. Luke Stofel got the majority of the innings with Ronny Chalas getting the 6th and 7th.
