Game notes: The Mud Hens got shut out today, but Troy Melton was a bright light for the Hens, pitching 4 scoreless innings of relief. He generated 13 whiffs and ended with a 31% CSW%. His fastball touched 99 MPH, and topped out at 19 in. of IVB, an excellent amount of carry.

The Baysox took an early lead, and the Seawolves answered back on a Liranzo double and a Clark home run. The game continued back and forth and went into extra innings until the top of the tenth inning when Chesapeake broke it open with a walk, passed ball, and two singles.

The Whitecaps started the party in the first on a Pennington double. The Lugnuts answered back with a double of their own. Isaac Pacheco homered in the top of the third, and Stephenson singled in the top of the seventh to make it 4-2 West Michigan. John Peck topped it off with a homer in the top of the 8th, the Whitecaps defeating the Lugnuts 5-2.

Today’s star of the show was Jackson Strong as he went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, and two runs scored. His triple got the party started in the eight inning as Lakeland was down 4-3, then on a walk, HBP, catcher interference, and a throwing error took and held onto a 7-4 lead.

The Florida Complex League Tigers overtook the Yankees 7-6. The game was tied 6-6 to start the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Tigers pulled ahead as Enrique Jimenez scored on a walk to Anibal Salas.

The Tigers Dominican Summer League teams played each other today, and the DSL Tigers 2 overtook the DSL Tigers 1. Andy Mata started the party for the DSL Tigers 2 with a home run in the bottom of the first. Three wild pitches happened, and a sac fly by Cris Rodriguez put the DSL Tigers 2 up 4-1. Angel Rodriguez walked then stole second base, Moya stole home, and Rodriguez advanced to third on a throwing error. DSLT2 lead 8-1 going into the top of the seventh, as Pinto singled to score Lao and Perez, cutting the DSLT2’s lead to 8-3, which would be the final score.
