Game notes:
Sawyer Gipson-Long made his second rehab start in the Glass City tonight throwing five innings of one run ball. Things really got interesting when the Bats entered the 9th inning down 3-2 and Edwin Rios hit a 2-run home run to take the lead. The Mud Hens snapped back by loading the bases for Bligh Madris who hit a walk-off grand slam for Toledo. The Mud Hens are 30-24 on the season and have won 9 of their last 10.

Yesterday’s game was postponed due to rain thus making today a doubleheader. Max Anderson snapped his 17 game hitting streak in game one but did walk and score a run. Carlos Mendoza continued his month of mash, hitting his second home run for Erie. Justice Bigbie also hit a 2-run shot of his own. Joseph Montalvo threw five innings of two run ball and struck out five. Erie briefly improved their record to 31-16.

Game Notes:
Troy Melton pitched six spectacular innings for Erie today, the most he’s pitched in a game all year. Max Anderson came back from his first hitless game since May 2nd with a magnificent performance in game two. Roberto Campos replaced Ben Malgeri in centerfield and in his first at bat recorded a bases clearing double in the second inning to break the tie between Erie and Reading. The Seawolves sweep the doubleheader and are 32-16 on the year and are tied for first place with the Rubberducks.

The Whitecaps put an absolute beating on the Dragons tonight. Josue Briceno hit a a staggering three home runs tonight and a double that went 400 feet and banked off the right-center field wall. Izaac Pacheco improves his OPS to .948 to continue his stellar performance in West Michigan. The Whitecaps put together a 6 run 5th inning that included home runs from Peyton Graham and Patrick Lee. Max Alba pitched four scoreless and was relieved by knuckleballer, Kenny Serwa who continues to dazzle hitters in High-A. West Michigan is currently 33-15 and own the best record in High-A.

Lakeland has been struggling to squeeze out games this week due to poor weather. Austin Green of the Tarpons hit a 2-run home run right before the game was suspended which ended up being the difference. Lakeland played a quick two innings to finish this game, failing to score a run before moving on to game two.

Lakeland took game two from Tampa. Last year’s undrafted free agent Garrett Pennington continues to make his mark, hitting a 2-run splash in the 4th inning to catapult the Flying Tigers over the Tarpons that recorded an exit velocity of 105.8 MPH. Luke Stofel lowered his ERA to 1.20 due to his 4.2 innings of work and gained six whiffs in his outing. Lakeland is 27-19 and sits atop the FSL West.
