The Mud Hens played a near-four hour extra inning thriller. Sawyer Gipson-Long made his first start with Toledo after completing a rehab start in Lakeland last Friday. His slider excelled, making batters whiff 10 times on 15 swings. Bryan Sammons followed Brenan Hanifee’s singular inning by shoving five of his own. Sammons made St. Paul hitters swing-and-miss 15 times, leading to his five strikeouts. The Mud Hens pitching staff as a whole punched out the Saints 20 times. Onto the offensive side, Max Clark continues to obliterate AAA pitching, reaching base safely for his tenth straight game and recording his tenth straight double. Clark also hit a single at an exit velocity of 109.2 MPH. Ty Madden takes the bump tomorrow and Toledo looks to rebound tomorrow against St. Paul.

The SeaWolves had to battle back hard today after the Baysox went up 7-1 after the second inning. Seth Stephenson kickstarted the comeback with a 3-run blast in the top of the fifth inning. Izaac Pacheco and Aaron Antonini finished the account in the top of the seventh with home runs of their own. Trevin Michael put away Chesapeake with two innings of work. Joe Miller takes on the Baysox at 11, tomorrow morning.

Carlos Marcano took the mound this afternoon for his first start of the season. The 22-year-old successfully kept the Loons off the board for four innings. Woody Hadeen answered first in the third inning with a base knock to take the lead, later stealing home on a pickoff attempt to first. Great Lakes answered back in the fifth with a two-run game tying single. The game remained tied until the eighth when the Whitecaps rallied in the bottom of the eight for three runs, which allowed CJ Weins to finish the job. West Michigan plays tomorrow at 6:35.

Last year’s seventh round pick, Cale Wetwiska made his season debut this evening in Lakeland where he topped out at 98 MPH, along with showcasing 21 inches of IVB on his fastball. Donye Evans recorded four outs, getting five whiffs on 17 pitches, including a slider that reached 13 inches of horizontal break. Charlie Christensen, out of Central Arkansas, made his professional debut and came swinging out of the gate. He threw four no hit innings, punching out five batters, and achieving nine whiffs, six on his changeup. Onto the offense, the Flying Tigers scored four runs in the first, thanks to a bases-clearing double by Jude Warwick. Bryce Rainer delivered a run of his own in the sixth with a 104.3 MPH double. The 5-0 Lakeland Flying Tigers play Daytona tomorrow morning at 11.
