It was a nearly perfect night on the farm. We saw a blowout in Triple-A and the end of two lengthy losing streaks. Read all about it below…

Triple-A: Toledo Mud Hens (W 19-1) @ Omaha Storm Chasers – 21-19 Overall

The Mud Hens went absolutely bonkers in their first game in Omaha, pounding out 19 runs on 19 hits and seven walks. They hit five doubles and four home runs, and they scored in each of the first seven innings. It all started with a Ben Malgeri double and a Max Clark bunt single to lead off the game. Then Omaha native Max Anderson picked up the first of his five hits on the night with an RBI single to center. Malgeri made it a 5-0 Mud Hens lead in the 2nd when he blasted a 3-run homer to left, and the rout was underway.

Jace Jung popped a 2-run homer in the 4th to make it an 8-0 game, and then in the 5th Eduardo Valencia added an RBI double, and Anderson blasted a 2-run homer of his own. Former Storm Chasers outfielder Tyler Gentry made it 14-1 with a 2-run blast in the 6th. Then a single from Anderson and a 2-run double from Gentry pushed the score to 18-1.

Hens pitching was strong throughout, with starter Dylan File allowing just one run over five innings. Then MLB rehabbers Beau Brieske and Connor Seabold both fired a scoreless frame, And Woo-Suk Go took the final two innings to close out a much-needed laugher.

Erie SeaWolves (L 7-1) VS. Richmond Flying Squirrels – 17-17 Overall

The Flying Squirrels came to Erie boasting the best record (25-7) in the minor leagues. And they looked as good as their record. Erie went with a bullpen game, and both teams traded zeroes for the first two innings. But then Richmond erupted for three runs in the 3rd off Zack Lee in his Double-A debut. Meanwhile, Richmond starter Trystan Vrieling was terrific, holding the SeaWolves to just two hits and three walks over five scoreless frames.

Yosber Sanchez worked a perfect 6th inning, but the Squirrels ambushed him in the 7th. Sanchez allowed four singles, a walk, and three stolen bases, and then Dariel Fregio gave up an RBI double, and suddenly it was a 7-0 game. Erie did manage one run in the bottom of the 7th on an Aaron Antonini double play, but that was as close as we got to an offensive highlight. The SeaWolves fall back to .500 on the year.

West Michigan Whitecaps (W 4-3) @ Great Lakes Loons – 12-10 Overall

The nightmare is over. West Michigan managed just three hits in this one, but they made them count, and their losing streak ended at 14 games. The Whitecaps got on the board early thanks to a first-inning home run from Garrett Pennington, and Hayden Minton wiggled out of a few early jams to keep the score 1-0.

West Michigan scored again thanks to three walks and a wild pitch from Great Lakes starter Jacob Frost in the 3rd inning. But the Loons immediately got one back on a solo homer from Nico Perez. The Caps took advantage of more sloppy play in the 5th, using an error, a hit batter, a walk, and an infield hit from Bryce Rainer to extend their lead to 3-1.

Ricardo Hurtado made it 4-1 with a 414-foot homer in the 7th. Things were looking good, but a key feature of this losing streak has been bullpen meltdowns. Jalen Evans pitched a clean 6th, but he gave up a run on the 7th, and things got really dicey for Ryan Harvey in the 8th. Three straight Loons singles made it a 4-3 game with just one out, but that ended up being all the damage Great Lakes could muster. Luke Stofel closed it out in the 9th, and Whitecaps fans can finally exhale.

Lakeland Flying Tigers (W 5-4) @ Clearwater Threshers – 19-15 Overall

A 30-minute rain delay didn’t seem to bother the Flying Tigers in this one. Jude Warwick led off the game with a single, then Jordan Yost was hit by a pitch. Zach MacDonald followed with a 110-MPH single, and Carson Rucker picks up a sac fly, and Lakeland led 2-0 just four batters into the game. Jude Warwick’s power surge continued with an RBI double in the 2nd, and he also scored Lakeland’s fourth and fifth run of the game, on a balk in the 5th and a MacDonald sac fly in the 7th.

Greyson Grinsell took the mound for the Flygers, looking to bounce back after the first rough start of his pro career. Grinsell was uncharacteristically wild, issuing four walks and allowing a run on a double play in the 3rd. But that was the only damage against him, and he limited the threshers to just two hits over five innings. Lakeland held a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th, but Clearwater made things very interesting by scoring three runs off a rehabbing Preston Howey. But Luke Hoskins and Yendy Gomez handled the final two innings without incident, and the Flying Tigers squeaked out their one-run win.

Jude Warwick 3/4, 2B, 3R, RBI

FCL Tigers (W 6-4, 7 innings) VS. FCL Yankees – 1-7 Overall

The Whitecaps weren’t the only team to snap a losing skid on Tuesday, as the complex league Tigers finally managed to get in the win column on their 8th try. And they did it thanks to some of the biggest prospects on the squad.

Jhonan Coba made his 2nd start and worked around a 2-out walk in the 1st. And then the offense went to work. Cris Rodriguez led off the game with a single, and then a single from Ronald Ramirez, a double from Maikol Orozco, and a triple from Cristian Perez made it a 3-0 game. Rodriguez added a 2-run blast the following inning, his first in the FCL, and Coba cruised through 4 hitless, scoreless innings.

The Yankees plated a run on the 5th of Joe Ruzicka, but the Tigers got it right back on a double from Angel De Los Santos and a triple from Ramirez. Xiomer Guacache took over in the 6th and worked out of a jam, but things got kind of scary in the 7th. Two doubles, two singles, and a wild pitch made it a 6-4 game. And the Yankees tying runs on base with two outs, but Omari Daniel got the final out on a painted 95 MPH fastball.

Cris Rodriguez 2/3, HR, 2R, 2RBI, BB, K, 2SB
