Izaac Pacheco

Physical Description: Big, strong, and shockingly athletic, with plenty more room to add bulk. May be able to add another 15-20 pounds of muscle in his upper body alone. Wouldn’t look out of place in the tight end room for a college football team.

Hit: 50

Made impressive strides with his pure contact skills in 2022, and shows an advanced feel for the zone as well as the ability to make adjustments. Now sports a quick, direct swing that is shorter than most hitters his size, though he can be beat under his hands. Shows a real two-strike approach, will fight off pitches to the opposite field, and hangs in well against lefties. Doesn’t have elite feel for the barrel, but is strong enough to reach base on mis-hits.

Power: 60

Legitimate 70-grade raw power. Can hit titanic, 450-foot home runs to the pull field or flick his wrists and go deep to the opposite field. In-game power largely depends on his approach. Could hit 30+ bombs if he sacrifices some contact.

Speed: 45

Surprisingly fast for his size. Close to an average runner to first, and a bit better underway. Will almost certainly lose a step or two as he gains mass. May steal a handful of bases a year, but speed most likely manifests in the form of doubles and the occasional triple.

Defense: 50

Has the ingredients to be an average defender at third. Hands are soft and he shows solid lateral mobility, though his size will likely always limit his ability to charge in on bunts and dribblers. May ultimately outgrow third base, but his hands and size should make him a quality first baseman.

Arm: 55

Shows Above-average arm strength and accuracy when throwing from a stable base. He needs to continue to work on accuracy while moving.

Overall: Pacheco has as much upside as anyone in Detroit’s system, with the potential to be an above-average regular or even an All Star if he continues to refine his hit tool. It’s not hard to picture him blowing up this year and turning into a top-100 prospect in all of baseball.
