It was another 50-50 night on the Detroit Tigers farm, with a pair of notable debuts, weather issues in Toledo, and a big game from a youngster in Lakeland
Triple-A: Toledo Mud Hens (L 10-5) VS. Omaha Storm Chasers – 9-13 OverallÂ
Rainy skies in the Toledo area delayed this game for 90 minutes. And then, perhaps appropriately for the Storm Chasers, Omaha brought the thunder. Abraham Toro kicked off the fireworks with a solo shot against Bryan Sammons to begin the 2nd inning. The Mud Hens did come back in the bottom of the frame, scoring on a 2-out knock from Luke Ritter.
But then John Rave hit a solo shot in the 3rd to make in a 2-1 game. And in the 4th inning Kameron Misner hit another solo home run, and then a Toro walk and a Drew Waters 2-run shot made it a 5-1 contest. The Hens made one more serious rally, with longtime Royals farmhard Tyler Gentry blasting a 3-run bomb to right.
But then the Chasers jumped all over reliever Matt Seelinger in the 5th. Rave smashed his second home run of the game, a 438-foot blast to right center. Then came a pair of walks, a Waters double, and a 2-run shot from Luca Tresh, and it was a 10-4 game. The Hens added a run in the 7th on a Gage Workman double and a pair of ground outs, but that was it. The Mud Hens outhit Omaha, but the Storm Chasers smashed six home runs, and it’s hard to overcome that.

Erie SeaWolves (W 3-2) @ Binghamton Rumble Ponies – 5-11 Overall
Does this win make up for losing to Binghamton in the Eastern League Championship? No. Of course not. Stop being ridiculous. But the Erie SeaWolves got the smallest measure of revenge on Tuesday, eking out a win on the road against the Rumble Ponies.
It didn’t look pretty early. Binghamton starter Zach Thornton got through the first inning on just nine pitches. In fact, he needed just 21 pitches to complete three innings. Meanwhile, Erie starter Joe Miller was forced to use 29 pitches just to get out of the first inning, though he managed to escape a bases-loaded jam without allowing a run. And then, in a flash, the SeaWolves took a 1-0 lead. Brett Callahan tripled to right center, and then John Peck brought him home on a sacrifice fly. The Ponies came back and took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the 4th, knocking Miller out of the game on three hits and two walks. Only a fine throw from Callahan produced an out.
But Erie’s bullpen managed to shut down Binghamton the rest of the way. Woo-Suk Go, Trevin Michael, Colin Fields, and Tanner Kohlhepp combined to allow just one hit over the final 5.2 innings, with 10 strikeouts. Meanwhile, catcher Bennett Lee tied the game in the 5th on a sharp double to right field. And then Peyton Graham was the hero, blooping a 2-out RBI single in the 7th that scored Seth Stephenson and gave the SeaWolves the win.

West Michigan Whitecaps (L 4-2) VS. Lake County Captains – 10-6 Overall
The Whitecaps returned home on a seven-game winning streak, and had some added excitement thanks to the High-A debut of Bryce Rainer. But Rainer’s 2026 struggles continued, and Lake Country rode strong pitching and some surprising power to pull out the win. A rehabbing Troy Watson drew the start for West Michigan and tossed two scoreless innings, though he did allow three baserunners.
Carlos Marcano took over for Watson and ran into trouble in the 4th, allowing back-to-back solo homers to Bennett Thompson and Luke Hill. Aaron Walton added a 2-run blast in the 5th off Seth Chavez. That’s all the Captains needed, because the Whitecaps couldn’t do anything against starter Justin Campbell. And they didn’t fare much better against bulk reliever Melkis Hernandez, with their first hit coming off the bat of Garrett Pennington in the 5th inning. Patrick Lee plated the first Whitecaps run with a single, and Ricardo Hurtado added another run an inning later. But that’s all the offense the Caps could muster.

Lakeland Flying Tigers (W 6-2) vs. Tampa Tarpons – 11-5 Overall
The Flying Tigers continued their excellent start to the season with a solid victory over Tampa. And, like many of their wins this year, it came thanks to a mix of strong starting pitching and some timely extra-base hits. But, the most noteworthy event in this one was Jordan Yost making his official pro debut. And Detroit’s top draft pick in 2025 didn’t waste much time, picking up his first pro hit with a sharp single in the 1st inning.
Yost’s absence to this point has been somewhat puzzling, but it now seems likely that he was nursing a minor injury. He was replaced by Jack Goodman in the 6th inning, which is the sort of thing you see when a player is rehabbing from an injury. Speaking of rehabbing, catcher Thayron Liranzo had another solid outing. He started behind the plate, hit a pair of singles, and produced the hardest batted ball of the game (111.2 MPH) before departing in the 8th inning.
Grayson Grinsell continues to impress in his first professional season. He didn’t have his best stuff, with just 3 whiffs on 21 swings. But Grinsell allowed just one hit and one walk over his four scoreless innings, and he completed his work in 55 pitches. The other star of this game was 20-year-old outfielder Anibal Salas. He crushed a triple to right to bring home Edian Espinal, and then scored Lakeland’s second run on a Jesus Pinto single. Later in the game Salas hit an oppo blast for his first Low-A homer. And in the 8th inning he uncorked a perfect throw from right field to cut down a runner at the plate. All in a day’s work for another tidy Flying Tigers victory.
