Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A)

Game notes:

Columbus started the game off with a bang, by scoring seven runs thanks to five walks. The Clippers chipped away a run in the third and the fourth inning to make it 9-0. The Mud Hens proceeded to turn the jets on in the sixth and seventh inning, including a scorching hot Max Clark’s eleventh home run of the year. The Mud Hens scored four runs in the eighth and rallied in the ninth, but a Trei Cruz RBI double play ball was the nail in the coffin for Toledo. They’re back at it in Columbus tomorrow, three games under .500.

Erie SeaWolves (Double-A)

Erie’s favorite knuckleballer, Kenny Serwa, took the mound for the SeaWolves. He tied his season-high pitch count of 88 pitches in 5.2 innings of work. Josue Briceno, who returned at the end of June, hit his third home run with Erie and fourth overall in the eighth inning to give the SeaWolves the lead. This paved the way for Trevin Michael to record his fifth save of the season in the midst of a playoff push in Erie, Pennsylvania.

West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)

Game notes:

The Whitecaps and the Sky Carp partook in a pitchers duel, headlined by a Ben Jacobs masterclass. Since being promoted to High-A, Jacobs has had trouble commanding the strike zone, although his stuff still plays. He did throw two wild pitches, but kept the base paths empty for the most part. Jacobs came in for the sixth inning to record one out, but was relieved by Ryan Harvey, who gave up the go-ahead home run to Carter Johnson two batters later. Lucas Elissalt takes the mound for the 41-55 Whitecaps tomorrow.

Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)

Game notes:

2023 third round draft pick, Paul Wilson, made his fourth start for Lakeland this season. He continues to struggle commanding his pitches. Wilson gave up a two-out grand slam in the first inning to Luis Puello to give Tampa a quick lead. Lakeland answered back with four in the second inning, thanks to a Javier Osorio grand slam. The rest of the game was a tit-for-tat battle between the Flying Tigers and the Tarpons, in which Lakeland fell short. Cale Wetwiska hasn’t given up a run since July 3rd, and will pitch tomorrow.
