Keider Montero fans 5 in season debut for Toledo
Montero struggled a bit in the first inning, giving up three runs, but rebounded nicely with three strong innings afterward. His fastball touched 96 mph and sat around 94.5 mph. He generated five whiffs with his slider, though he showed some command issues and experienced a slight velocity dip in the fourth inning.

Erie SeaWolves (Double-A)
Final: Erie 5-1 Harrisburg 1 (Erie 1-0)
Top Performer(s):
-
Jim Jarvis: 2-for-3, RBI, Ben Malgeri 3-for-4, 3B, RBI
-
Troy Melton: 4IP 2H 1R 0ER 5K 10 swings and misses, fastball sat 95-96
Game Notes:
The five runs the Erie SeaWolves according to Tom Reisenweber of the Erie Times, are the most in a home opener since beating Trenton 11-1 in 2019. Erie has won their seventh straight Opening Day.
Over the last two seasons, Erie has featured strong bullpen pitching—and that trend continued tonight against a Harrisburg team notably lacking any high-profile prospects.
Joseph Montalvo, making his Double-A debut, teamed up with RJ Petit, Andrew Mango, and Tim Naughton to deliver five scoreless innings of relief. Petit’s changeup stood out as a plus pitch, showing impressive downward movement to complement a fastball that touched 96–97 mph.
Jaden Hamm will make his Double-A debut on Saturday, with the game starting at 1:35pm.

Final: West Michigan 7-Dayton 0
Top Performer(s):
- Kevin McGonigle 2-for-5, 4 RBI
- Joe Miller: 4IP 1H 2BB 6K
Game Notes:
It was a tale of two very different pitchers. Chase Burns, the 2nd overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, overpowered the Whitecaps for four innings, striking out six with his high-octane fastball, getting 10 swings and misses.
On the other side, Miller relied on off-speed pitches to keep the Dragons’ hitters off balance. He and four relievers combined to shut out Dayton.
Kevin McGonigle had a strong day at the plate, finishing with two doubles. Max Clark went 1-for-2 with three walks and scored twice. The Whitecaps will play tomorrow afternoon at 2pm
Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)
Final: Tampa 2-Lakeland 1
Top Performer(s):
- Carson Rucker 2-for-3
- Zach Lee 4IP 1H 1R 3BB 3K
Game Notes:
Bryce Rainer, the Tigers’ first-round draft pick in 2024, left the game after taking a pitch to the head. Following proper protocol, he was removed from the game, according to Bless You Boys. After the game, Rainer’s family said he was in good spirits.
Brian Serven and Akil Baddoo were both with the Flying Tigers on rehab assignments. Jackson Strong finished the night 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
