Tigers Minor League Recap – 8/13
Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A)
Game 1 Final: Columbus 2 – Toledo 0
Top Performer(s):
Trei Cruz, SS — 1-for-3, SB
Eduardo Valencia, 1B — 0-for-1, 2 BB
Akil Baddoo, CF — 0-for-2, 2 BB
Carlos Peña — 4.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. His first AAA outing since 4/6/25, he took on the bulk of the innings tonight. Carlos threw 80 pitches and got 10 whiffs on 40 swings, including 7 on his slider. Even better was his 38% CSW% vs his sinker.
Game notes:
Offense got on base 6 times tonight with 5 of them being walks. Hard to score runs when guys can’t hit the ball. Trei Cruz had the lone hit and got a SB tonight. Akil Baddoo and Eduardo Valencia got 2 walks each, Justyn-Henry Malloy with the 5th walk.
Pitching did really well. They were able to generate 15 Ks. Carlos Peña led the way with IP and K, but Tanner Rainey (2.0 IP, 4 Ks), RJ Petit (1.1 IP, 3 K), and Brennan Hanifee (1.0 IP, 3 Ks) all helped to limit the hitters as well.
We did, however, have this fun play made by Max Anderson in top of the 1st.

Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Keider Montero (3-4, 6.27 ERA) vs Parker Messick (5-5, 3.30 ERA)
Erie SeaWolves (Double-A)
Final: Chesapeake 6 – Erie 8
Top Performer(s):
Kevin McGonigle, SS — 2-for-4, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB, SB
John Peck, 2B — 2-for-4, 2 RBI, R
Max Clark, CF — 0-for-2, 3 BB, 2 R
Yosber Sanchez — 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Yosber has his 4th straight scoreless outing of 2 IP. 3rd time he’s got at least 3 Ks. It would seem like he’s starting to settle into AA a bit.
Game Notes:
Erie hitters did a great job tonight getting on base. They had just 2 XBH, but they got a total of 7 hits and 9 walks over the course of the game. The walks helped tons in the 1st inning as they got 3 of them and 2 singles that allowed 2 runs to score. Then they were able to score runs from a walk in the 3rd inning, the 4th inning, and 9th inning.
But the bigger story is how this is all just Kevin McGonigle’s game and we are just watching. He’s added another HR, a go ahead, to his AA resume (3rd in the last 2 games), driving in 2, scoring 3 times, and getting on-base 3 times which continues to his streak of 6 games in a row getting on base 2+ times.

Garrett Burhenn had the start today. He was able to get 5 IPs, but he gave up 4 ER that included 4 HRs. Wasn’t his sharpest game. Yosber Sanchez came in and able to keep the game tied to let the offense get them back into the game. Trevin Michael took the 8th and 9th and gave up the lead in the 8th, but he earned the win.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Game 1: Jaden Hamm (2-3, 4.57 ERA) vs Nestor German (3-6, 4.21 ERA)
West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)
Final: Fort Wayne 4 – West Michigan 5
Top Performer(s):
Izaac Pacheco, 3B — 2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB
Brett Callahan, RF — 2-for-3, R, BB, 2 SB
Jackson Strong, CF — 0-for-3, 2 BB, R
Moises Rodriguez — 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K. Moises is quickly becoming a favorite reliever of mine. It seems like every time I see he’s pitched, his stat line consists of an efficient, shutdown inning. Tonight was not different. 11 pitches to get that 1 IP and drop his A+ ERA to 0.90 on the season while also collecting his 2nd save.
Game Notes:
Both teams scored all their runs in the first 4 innings of tonights game. The Whitecaps got some big power from Izaac Pacheco who hit his 9th and 10th HR of the season and drove in 4 of the 5 runs scored.

Izaac Pacheco goes deep for the 2nd time today, this one to the opposite field, and West Michigan goes up 4-2. Give Pacheco 10 home runs on the season now. pic.twitter.com/TTBfJTZDJp

Lucas Elissalt started the game and didn’t have the best outing. He got a little wild hitting a batter, giving up a wild pitch, and walking 2 while giving up 7 hits. 2 of the 4 runs were unearned, however. The bullpen did a great job of helping him out though. Going 4.2 IP, they gave up just 2 hits. Marco Jimenez, another reliever who has been tremendous, went 1.2 IP and had nothing but zeros for everything else while Haden Erbe gave up 1 hit and struck out 1 in his 2 IP.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Hayden Minton (4-2, 4.20 ERA) vs Sam Whiting (0-2, 4.50 ERA)
Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)
Final: Clearwater 4 – Lakeland 2
Top Performer(s):
Junior Tilien, LF — 2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI
Carson Rucker, 3B — 1-for-2, 2 R, BB
Cristian Santana, 1B — 1-for-3, BB
Pedro Garcia — 3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K. Really good outing for Pedro, his best since joining Lakeland. He threw 60% of his pitches as sinkers, which topped out a 93.6 MPH, he was the best Lakeland pitcher as far as being in the zone with 54% of his pitches hitting it.
Game Notes:
Lakeland’s offense was shutdown tonight scoring just 1 run in the 4th and 1 in the 6th, both times it was Junior Tilien driving in Carson Rucker. They struck out 15 times and couldn’t get much going.
Pitching wise, Jatnk got the start again. Just as he did last week, he was fine until the 4th inning came where he gave up 2 singles and 2 walks, and got a force out. He would allow all 4 of the runs allowed to score. Wilmer Flores came in and threw 3 pitches, giving up a double, before being removed from the game for injury. Pedro Garcia replaced him and did a great job. Lastly, Logan Berrier came in for the last inning. He threw 9 pitches and got 2 Ks. His 2 cutters thrown were the only 2 whiffs he got and his sinker touched 94.2 MPH.
