Jordan Yost Scouting Report
Background: A native of Tampa, Florida, Jordan Yost was was a high-level player, having committed to the University of Florida as a sophomore in high school. But but he didn’t participate in many summer showcase events, and wasn’t really on draft radars until his senior season. The Tigers selected him with the 24th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft and signed him to a $3.25 million bonus. Yost’s brother Hayden plays center field for the Florida Gators.
Physical description: Yost is listed at 6-foot and 170 pounds. He looks very slender and young, though he does have broad shoulders that suggest he is still growing into his body.
Hit: 55
Yost shows minimal extraneous movement in his swing. He loads his hands quickly and uses a small toe-tap step before unleashing a quick, fluid swing from the left side of the plate. Shows plus bat-to-ball skills, with the ability to manipulate the barrel and produce line drives. Has demonstrated a discerning eye at the plate, and should supplement his batting average with a solid on-base percentage.
Power: 30
Power is the biggest question mark in Yost’s profile. He grew into some pop in his final year of high school, and he has room to get stronger. But he produced well below-average exit velo numbers at the MLB combine. He figures to be more of a gap hitter who can sneak into double-digit home runs in his prime.
Run: 60
Yost is a plus runner who routinely gets from home plate to first base in 4.1 seconds. He’s a tick faster underway, and he shows good instincts that should allow him to steal 20-30 bases annually. His speed should also play if he moves to the outfield.
Defense: 50
Yost is steady defender at shortstop, with good hands and average range and arm strength. His athleticism and instincts should also allow him to play second base and center field.
Arm: 50
Yost shows average arm strength and good accuracy from shortstop. He probably won’t ever be a plus defender, but he has the ability to make off-platform throws from a variety of arm angles.
Overall: Jordan Yost’s hitting ability, speed, and defensive tools give him a relatively high floor as an up-and-down utility man. Right now it looks like his ceiling is as everyday regular, but that could change dramatically based on how much game power he can develop, and where he sticks defensively.
