Tigers Minor League Recap – 9/10
Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A)
Final: Louisville 2 – Toledo 0
Top Performer(s):
Hao-Yu Lee, 3B — 1-for-2, 2 BB
Justyn-Henry Malloy, RF — 0-for-2, 2 BB
Max Anderson, 2B — 0-for-3, BB
Tyler Mattison — 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Got all 3 outs via the strikeout tonight. His fastball got a 40% Whiff%, 43% CSW%. His 4-seam fastball looked well above average as it touched 94.7 MPH and had an average of 19.6 IVB. He hit 21 IVB 5 times.
Game notes:
This was a bit of a pitching duel. Despite getting on base 11 times, the Mud Hens couldn’t get the timely hits to get themselves any runs to cross the plate. Riley Unroe had the lone XBH, a 5th inning double with just 1 out, and they’d leave 9 men on base.
Pitching did well. Was able to get 9 Ks for the staff and were able to strand 8 Louisville batters, but the run in the 4th would be all they needed. Louisville would tack on 1 more run in the 8th, just to seal the victory. Randy Dobnak fell to 2-8 on the year. We got to see Jose Urquidy and Paul Sewald rehab appearances. Between the two, they got 3 IP and no runs allowed.
We did get a nice little web gem from the Justyn-Henry Malloy tonight.

Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Jordan Balazovic (5-1, 3.97 ERA) vs Charlie Barnes (1-2, 5.79 ERA)
Erie SeaWolves (Double-A)
Final: Altoona 11 – Erie 2
Top Performer(s):
Kevin McGonigle, DH — 2-for-4, 2B, R, SB
Seth Stephenson, LF — 1-for-4, 2B, RBI
Josue Briceño, C — 1-for-3, BB
Garrett Burhenn — 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. Garrett didn’t get the start tonight, as that went to Travis Kuhn, but he was the pitcher with the most IP and only one to not allow a run.
Game Notes:
The Erie offense couldn’t get it going tonight. They had more walks (5) than hits (4) and would score just 2 runs, 1 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th. Kevin McGonigle was the only hitter with more than 1 hit, he and Josue Briceño would be the only ones to get on base more than once.
Just a single for Josue Briceño, but @SamLebowitz_ with the relevant details – it left his bat at 109 MPH and extends his hitting streak to 11 games. pic.twitter.com/cq9GBGj6RH

Altoona would score 1 run in the top of the first and never lose the lead. It looked like it could be a close game as Garrett Burhenn would shutdown the offense for 3.1 IP before Altoona scored their 2nd run in the 5th. Altoona would blow it open though with a 4 run 6th and really put the dagger in the Seawolves with a 5 run 8th.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Kenny Serwa (5-6, 4.21 ERA) vs Wilber Dotel (7-8, 4.08 ERA)
West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)
No West Michigan games today, will have Game 2 tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Hayden Minton vs Caden Favors
Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)
No Lakeland games today, will have Game 2 tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s projected starters: TBD vs TBD
