Ryan Kreidler

Physical Description: Tall and high-waisted, making him appear deceptively lanky. It is actually well proportioned and muscular, with good athleticism. Build reminiscent of an outside receiver.

Hit: 30

Kreidler’s weakest tool is his bat. He struggles to make consistent, quality contact. His swing is quick and somewhat flat, which allows him to handle good velocity. But he often gets out front of breaking balls, leading to a pull-heavy batted ball profile. Has a decent eye and should post close to average walk rates, but his bat path leads to trouble with breaking balls below the zone and fastballs above the zone, so he will probably always deal with an above-average strikeout rate.

Power: 45

Kreidler’s power is a tick above-average. It’s deceptive pop because of his frame and swing, but he is capable of driving balls out to all parts of the park. But his power plays down at least a grade and he struggles to make hard contact because of his hit tool questions.

Speed: 55

Kreidler is an above-average runner. He posts close to average home-to-first times, but he’s a plus runner underway. He’s not a big base-stealing threat, but could swipe 15 bags a year given enough playing time. His speed might help him handle center field should he transition into a super-utility type.

Defense: 55

Probably Kreidler’s’s best tool. He stands out on the left side of the infield for his terrific hands, quick first step, and throwing accuracy. Despite his frame, Kreidler does a good job of getting low and positioning himself to make throws. Probably a plus defender at third base and at least average at shortstop and second base.

Arm: 55

Kreidler’s raw arm strength is a tick above average, but it plays up a little bit thanks to good footwork and accuracy. His throws have good carry and he tends to hit the first baseman in the chest.

Overall: There are paths for Kreidler to become an everyday player, but they depend on his hit tool taking a step forward, or his defense being so good on the left side of the infield that it makes up for a below-average offensive profile. His most likely role is that of a glove-first super utilityman who could be used in platoon situations against left-handed pitching.
