Joe Miller Scouting Report
Drafted in 2022 in the 11th round out of the University of Pennsylvania, Joe Miller is a 5’10”, 195 lb. LHP.
He was featured in the Tigers’ 2026 Spring Breakout game vs. Pittsburgh Pirates prospects, where he showed off a bit of an uptick in the velocity of his fastball, reaching back for 95 while he had previously sat lower 90s. He fanned 6 in 2.1 scoreless innings.
He has primarily been used in a starting role, and started his 2026 season in Double-A Erie. He has a stiffer looking on-line delivery that he repeats with ease. His arm action is medium into a low 3/4 arm slot. Command and control really drive the boat for him, as his velocity is fringe average.
Fastball: 45
He can ride his fastball at the top of the zone or sink it. It sits about 92, but we have seen him reach back for extra, touching up to 95.
Cutter: 55
The cutter sits around 82 MPH. It has tight rotation and a 1-7 shape, the best ones have late bite. His best pitch.
Slider: 45
Miller’s slider has sweeping action, and sits 78 MPH with a 2-8 shape.
Changeup: 50
Change has fading action, and the best ones have late sink. A nice weapon to make hitters expand the zone. Sits 81 mph.
Command: 50
He commands his pitches well around the zone, and executes most of the time in 2-strike counts.
Control: 50

Overall: 45
