Game notes:

The Omaha Storm Chasers took on the Toledo Mud Hens at home this evening. Ty Madden danced around the zone for four innings, walking four batters and only recording 5 whiffs, but kept damage under control with just one run. Madden was followed by Tyler Mattison, who had batters swinging-and-missing 47% of the time versus his fastball, which averaged 20 inches of induced vertical break. On to the bats, the Mud Hens were hot at the plate today. Ben Malgeri hit his second and third home run of the season, with Corey Julks and Jace Jung joining on the dinger party en route to a 8-2 Mud Hens victory.

Moises Rodriguez – 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 K

Tyler Owens – 2 IP, H, 0 ER, BB, 3 K

Game notes:

Erie’s favorite knuckleballer, Kenny Serwa threw a gem today. His five innings of one run ball plus six strikeouts gave him his first win of the season. Over to the offense, Erie took a quick 3-0 lead in the second thanks to three-run home run from E.J. Exposito, his third of the year. Following a one-run double in the fourth from the Rumble Ponies, Erie locked things down to improve their record to 6-11.

Tomorrow’s projected starters: Carlos Pena (1-1, 2.89 ERA) vs Joander Suarez (1-0, 1.59 ERA)

West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)

Top Performer(s):

Ricardo Hurtado, DH – 1-for-3, 2 R, BB

Garrett Pennington, LF – 2-for-4, R, 2B

Hayden Minton – 3.1 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Logan Berrier – 2 IP, H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

Game notes:

Lake County visited the Whitecaps at LMCU Ballpark for a noon game. Hayden Minton took the bump and successfully kept runs to a limit, however he struggled to throw strikes, only throwing pitchers over the plate 56% of the time. On the other hand, Junior Tilien gave the Whitecaps a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second from the nine-hole with a 3-run blast. The Whitecaps pitching staff held the fort down while the offense continued to perform. West Michigan plays against Lake County tomorrow evening.

Tomorrow’s projected starters: Braylon Doughty (0-1, 1.93 ERA) vs Lucas Elissalt (0-1, 4.09 ERA)

Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)

Final: Tampa 0  – Lakeland 6

Top Performer(s):

Thayron Liranzo, DH – 2-for-3, R, BB

Jack Goodman, 2B – 1-for-5, R, 2 RBI, SB

Javier Osorio, 1B – 2-for-4, R, 2 RBI, SB

Ben Jacobs – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 K

Luke Hoskins – 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Game notes:

Thayron Liranzo continues his hot streak whilst he rehabs from an oblique strain. The pitching staff in Lakeland laid down the law, headlined by rising prospect, Ben Jacobs. The former Sun Devil kept the Tarpons off the board, although his pitch selection was quite different. He only threw three changeups today, compared to 17 last week. Jacobs threw 22 sliders this week, contrary to 12 thrown last week. To the back of the pen, undrafted free agent, Luke Hoskins, dazzled by recording 8 whiffs on 14 swings. Combined, his breaking balls recorded a 100% whiff rate, whilst his sinker recorded a 40% whiff rate. Lakeland looks to go for a third straight win tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s projected starters: TBD vs TBD
