Tigers Minor League Recap – 7/2
Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A)
Final: Iowa 6 – Toledo 4
Top Performer(s):
Brett Callahan, RF — 2-for-3, R, 2 RBI, BB
Gage Workman, SS — 3-for-5, R, RBI
Max Clark, CF — 2-for-3, 2B, R, 2 BB
Matt Seelinger — 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. Acting as an opened, Matt did everything needed. He got plenty of whiffs (9 out of 19 swings) and allowing just 3 base runners.
Game notes:
The Mud Hens were hitting the ball hard all night, having 12 hard hit balls and 7 over 100 MPH EVs. Among the 100 MPH EVs were the 2 Brett Callahan singles. He has just a .666 OPS, but he’s showing some powerful EVs.
The offense would score a run in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to take an early 3-1 lead. Though that lead would be blown when Iowa gets a 3 run 5th to take a 4-3 lead. 2 runs scored on a fielding error by Brett Callahan, making 2 of the 4 runs Carl Edwards Jr. allowed unearned. The Mud Hens would tie it up in the bottom of of the 6th only to lose the lead in the 7th when newly acquired Yilber Diaz allowed a run on a sac fly that would give him the loss.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Ty Madden (2-0, 5.04 ERA) vs TBD
Erie SeaWolves (Double-A)
Final: Akron 10 – Erie 12
Top Performer(s):
Andrew Jenkins, 1B — 2-for-5, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI
EJ Expositio, 3B — 1-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI, BB
Peyton Graham, DH — 2-for-5, 3B, 2 R, RBI
Tyler Owens — 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K. In a game where the first 2 pitchers gave up 10 runs in the first 5 innings, Tyler Owens came in and held down the 7th and 8th inning to keep the Seawolves’ lead safe.
Game Notes:
Akron has done something to offend Erie as they follow up an 18 run game with a 12 run. Peyton Graham now has 8 hits in the last 2 games and every starter got a hit tonight. For that matter, the only starter on either team to not get a hit was Akron’s 9th hitter, Juan Benjamin. In a game that saw 22 runs scored between the 2 team, they had a combined 11 XBH including 3 HRs.
Beyond Peyton’s continued onslaught, Garrett Pennington has continued his strong start to AA with 2 more hits and getting his OPS to .881 on year at AA. EJ Expositio also continues to show off his power hitting his 13th HR of the season. Seth Stephenson only had a single on the night, but he was able to get his 39th stolen base off that single.

On the other hand, pitching wasn’t quite as strong. Kenny Serwa’s start to July was not nearly as productive and as he was in June. In 4 starts in June, he gave up 3 ERs and tonight he gave up 7. Dariel Fregio came in relief and gave up 3 himself in the first 5 innings, all of them in the first 5 innings. And it looked like the RubberDucks would be able to maybe get a victory being up 10-6. But a 6 run 6th and a combined 4.1 IP of scoreless baseball from Eric Silva, Tyler Owens, and Wandisson Charles would give Erie it’s 11th win in their last 12 games.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Andrew Sears (0-0, 1.54 ERA) vs Caden Favors (2-5, 5.64 ERA)
West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A)
Final: Lake County 3 – West Michigan 9
Top Performer(s):
Patrick Lee, LF — 1-for-1, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Cristian Santana, 1B — 2-for-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI
Woody Hadeen, SS — 1-for-4, 3B, RBI, BB
Lucas Elissalt — 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. For just the second time since getting to West Michigan, Lucas has thrown 5 inning and walked none. This time, he does so with 5 Ks, which would best the previous one. This was also a start we liked to see after his previous one was cut short.
Game Notes:
One way to win is to score 2 runs in 4 different innings to start a game. And that’s exactly what the Whitecaps did tonight scoring 2 runs in each of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings. They weren’t really overpowering the Lake County pitchers per say getting just 4 XBH out of their 11, but it wouldn’t matter.

Lucas Elissalt got the start and I’d like to praise him for a moment. Since 5/28, he’s got a 2.25 ERA and a 4.00 K/BB in 24 IP. He’s really turned it on the last month’s worth of starts. Ethan Sloan came in to replace Elissalt and would be charged for all 3 of the runs that Lake County would score in the game. Inohan Paniagua and Eliseo Mota would finish the game.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
Jake Miller (0-0, 1.17 ERA) vs Michael Kennedy (7-3, 4.93 ERA)
Lakeland Flying Tigers (Single-A)
Game 1 Final/7: Palm Beach 7 – Lakeland 6
Top Performer(s):
Jordan Yost, SS — 3-for-4, 2B, R, RBI
Jude Warwick, 2B — 1-for-3, HR, R, 2 RBI
Anibal Salas, RF — 1-for-3, R, RBI
Donye Evans — 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. Donye needed just 14 pitches to get his 1 inning of work done. He’d have a 50% Swing% and a 57% Whiff% in his outing.
Game Notes:
Game 1 of a double header was the make up of yesterday. Malachi Witherspoon would get the start, giving up 4 ER in 4.0 IP. He wouldn’t walk anyone and get 3 Ks, but gave up 4 of the 5 hits that would allow in the 4 run 4th inning, 3 of which were on a pair of HRs.
Offensively there wouldn’t be much. Jordan Yost had 3 of the 9 hits for the team and 1 of the 2 XBHs with Jude Warwick’s HR being the other. Still, they’d keep the game close despite losing the lead for good in the 4th. The Cardinals and Flying Tigers would each score 2 runs in 6th and 1 run in the 7th, keeping pace with each other.

Game 2 Final/7: Palm Beach 10 – Lakeland 2
Top Performer(s):
Beau Ankeney, LF — 1-for-4, 3B, R, RBI
Jude Warwick, 2B — 1-for-4, 2B, R
Javier Osorio, 1B — 2-for-3
Xiomer Guacache — 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K. You can tell what sort of game this was for the pitchers just by this. He didn’t get any whiffs on his 27 pitches, but his 4-seam averaged 19” of IVB and he allowed just the 1 base runner
Game Notes:
The Flying Tigers managed to get more XBHs (3) than they had in game one, but the scored just 2 runs in this game. They had just 6 base runners in game 2 on a walk, 2 singles, 2 doubles, and a triple.

Meanwhile the pitcher had a combined night they’d like to forget. Cash Kuiper got the start giving up 6 ER, all 6 with no outs in the 3rd. It went double, single, single, double, walk, walk before being pulled. Duque Hebbert wouldn’t be much better though giving up 4 ER in his 1.1 IP. Xiomer was probably the most efficient pitcher for game 2, though Jan Caraballo would also allow no runs despite walking 3 and giving up a single in his 2.0 IP.
Tomorrow’s projected starters:
TBD vs Andrew Dutkantch IV (0-0, 6.48 ERA)
FCL Tigers (Rookie)
Final: FCL Yankees 4 – FCL Tigers 6
Top Performer(s):
Angel De Los Santos, SS — 1-for-3, HR, R, RBI
Cris Rodriguez, CF — 1-for-1, HR, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB
Martin Tamara, 1B — 2-for-2, HR, R, 3 RBI
Aleiman Cruz— 3.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K.
Game Notes:
Tomorrow’s projected starters: TBD vs TBD
DSL Tigers (Rookie)
Final/6: DSL Giants Black 6 – DSL Tigers (1) 2
Top Performer(s):
Edgar Lugo, 3B — 1-for-1, 2 BB
Randy Santana, CF — 1-for-3, RBI
Jose Ramirez, RF-CF — 1-for-2, RBI, SB
Santiago De Freitas — 2.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K.
Game Notes:
Tomorrow’s projected starters: TBD vs TBD
Final: DSL NYY Yankees 3 – DSL Tigers (2) 8
Top Performer(s):
Eduardo Tusen, SS/2B — 3-for-5, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R
Willian Berti, LF — 1-for-3, HR, BB, R, 4 RBI
Andy Mata, 3B — 0-for-3, RBI, BB
Albert Ramos — 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.
Game Notes:
Eduardo Tusen continues to be hit and show off his speed, beating out an infield dribbler and advancing to second on the throw. He’s a name to keep an eye on.

Since he hit his 1st HR on 6/11, Eduardo has his .407/.444/.746 in 59 AB.
And he’s got, IMO, 65-70 speed. Just 17, he’s another International signing who I think is very interesting. https://t.co/WwkDLw1gRu
