Izaac Pacheco

Physical Description: Big, strong, and solidly athletic. Has added muscle and mass over the past few seasons, but he still looks proportional.

Hit: 30

Has regressed as a hitter since 2022. Swing is long and grooved, as he struggles to manipulate his swing path to meet the baseball if it strays too far from the heart of the plate. Will likely always post elevated strikeout and swing-and-miss totals.

Power: 60

Pacheco still boasts legitimate 70-grade raw power when he connects. A combination of strength and leverage allows him to hit titanic, 450-foot home runs to the pull field or flick his wrists and go deep to the opposite field.

Speed: 30

Was once surprisingly fast for his size, bus has slowed down as he gained mass. Not a stolen base threat, but not a complete base clogger. Shows fringe-average speed once he gets moving and he can take the extra base on gappers.

Defense: 45

Has the ingredients to be an average defender at third. Hands are soft, and he shows solid lateral mobility, though his size will likely always limit his ability to charge in on bunts and dribblers. Has seen a little bit of time at first base, where his hands and size should make him a quality defender.

Arm: 55

Shows above-average arm strength and accuracy when throwing from a stable base. He needs to continue to work on accuracy while moving.

2022 Overall: Pacheco has as much upside as anyone in Detroit’s system, with the potential to be an above-average regular or even an All Star if he continues to refine his hit tool. It’s not hard to picture him blowing up this year and turning into a top-100 prospect in all of baseball.

2025 update:  (Rogelio) Izaac is still a good defender with good range to play third, but his struggles at the plate have continued at High-A. Pacheco will need to work on cutting his strikeout rate, which was 33.8% in 2024 and tap into that power potential that seems to be there. He started to put together better at-bats after coming back from injury in September. He just turned 22 so it should be a good year for him to emerge.
